Venture Together held its annual In Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. event on January 30, 2023. This was the first in-person, agency-wide event we’ve held since 2020, and it was exciting to be together again. In past events, Venture has partnered with the St. Charles AME Zion Church in Sparkill, NY, and this year they graciously offered us the use of their gathering space when unforeseen circumstances forced us to look for a new venue.
The event opened and closed with stirring performances by St. Charles’ Samuel L. Shufford Mass Choir, and Reverend Brandon McLaughlin welcomed Venture Together to the church.
Each year a Venture staff member is chosen to receive the Martin Luther King Award. Staff are nominated by their peers based on how they exemplify the qualities of Dr. King, such as courage, determination, integrity, and respect. This year’s winner was Calin Etienne, store manager of Venture Together’s Just-A-Buck store in Garnerville, NY.
