Germonds Presbyterian Church Deacon Chris Durland delivers birthday treats to Emerson E. at Venture East.
Venture Together’s association with the historical Germonds Presbyterian Church began back in the 1970s. As Venture was struggling with local residents and town boards to establish homes for people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities in the community, Germonds Presbyterian was one of the first congregations to welcome Venture into its fold.
Over the ensuing 40+ years, the bond has remained strong. Many of our residents attend weekly Sunday services, and a number were confirmed in the church. The Venture Choir has performed there, Germonds has held “Venture Day” picnics, and church members have volunteered at Special Olympics events with our athletes.
Though Covid-19 may have curtailed in-person church attendance, one Germonds tradition has continued throughout: delivery of a birthday cake (or sugar-free treats) and balloons to our residents who are church members.
Church Deacon Chris Durland recently visited Venture East to surprise Emerson E. on his special day. It’s something he loves doing. “Rockland County is very fortunate to have an organization like Venture Together, and we are thankful that they are a part of Germonds Presbyterian Church,” said Durland.
On behalf of Emerson, and all of Venture, we say “Thank you!”
