After 57 seasons, Camp Venture is still creating unforgettable summers. Longtime camper Eddie shares what keeps him coming back—and why he calls it “the best camp in the United States.”
For Eddie, Camp Venture is much more than a summer destination. Eddie has been part of the Camp Venture community since 2021, beginning when he was 15. Now 20, he is preparing for his sixth and final summer at camp next year.
Ask Eddie about his favorite Camp Venture activity, and you’ll quickly discover that choosing just one is impossible.
“I like all of them,” he says.
His days at camp include athletics, art, music, board games, lunch, and swimming. He especially enjoys the energy of arriving each morning, when, as he describes it, “everybody [is] running around like hyenas and lions.”
But what makes Camp Venture truly extraordinary isn’t any activity, but rather, the people. “My counselors and friends at camp—they are a lot of fun.”
“I think one of the things that makes Camp Venture awesome is that they have had great people working here since 1969… my counselors make me feel that I’m a part of their community; they make me feel that I’m young again”. Eddie goes on to describe his counselors and friends as fun, genuine, and always ready to laugh and joke around.
When asked what he would tell a new camper, he described camp as “almost like when you’re entering a dream and you see all of your past dreams come alive.”
And if he had to describe Camp Venture in just one word? “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
When asked why, he explained:
“When life is full of joy and happiness, you need a little whimsy…and I think that this place is the best camp in the United States.”
Looking Toward Summer 2027
After 57 seasons, Camp Venture remains a treasured part of summer in our community. Each year brings new campers, new friendships, new traditions, and new memories, while carrying forward the spirit that has made Camp Venture special for generations.
As we close out another incredible season, we’re grateful to our campers, families, counselors, staff, volunteers, and supporters who make Camp Venture what it is.
And, just like Eddie, we’re already looking forward to what’s next.
