“I’m Afraid It’s Arline” Movie Screening

March 27, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

Venture is excited to host this special screening of “I’m Afraid It’s Arline,” followed by a Q&A with it’s creators and stars. Written by longtime Venture staff Myles Wren (based on his stage play), this movie is truly a Venture family creation – Venture staff are the stars, crew, producers.

The film explores the relationship between a young musician, DeAngelo (played by former Venture lifeguard Hervé Alexandre) and Arline, an octogenarian resident of a group home for people with developmental disabilities. As they grow closer, DeAngelo learns Arline’s heartbreaking story of her early life in an institution for the “feeble-minded” and how living in a place with limited stimulation, educational opportunities and social isolation changed a young girl with minor physical disabilities into an adult with institutional developmental disabilities.
